Notes for LAURA KATE SEYMOUR:

John Barny Petre eloped to Gretna Green with Sussana Childs and the where married on the anvil. The Petre family annulled the marriage because Susanna Childs was a commoner. He was suppose to have married a lady named Carloyn Kenzie latter. However he still visted Susanna Childs and they had four children. One of them was my great grandfather John Seymour Petre. He married Eliza Kett and they had seven children one of which was my grandmother Laura Seymour. The other children of John Seymour Petre were Fred, Arthur, and Julia. The Petre family supported the children of John Barney's illicit relationship with Susana Childs. John Seymour Petre my great grandfather was a sailor at first. He missed his train and so also missed his ship.The ship was lost at sea and all hands were lost. The disaster was known as the Thorp Disaster. John Seymour Petre dropped the Petre part of his name and went on stage as John Seymour. He latter had a photograph shop. Oneday the sign over the shop fell striking him on the head,he is said to have gone mental and was committed to an institution where he latter died. The Petre family had a large estate in Norwich England and had a baronetry , they continued to support Eliza Kitt Seymour and her eight children of which my grandmother was the second youngest. The hackney carriage with driver used to come every month with their allowance. Lady Petre grew tiered of the expense and began a program to get rid of the children through the Bernardo Boys Home. She emigrated them one by one to Canada. Each of the children where placed on a farm in hopes that they would not find each other, however they did! My grandmother was the next to go but refused to go so my great grandmother signed away all of her own and her children’s rights to the Petre estate in exchange for passage for herself and my grandmother and a eligitament daughter named Florance who lived in Del Rio Texas. My granmother’s oldest sister Gertrude was employed as a maid so she had to pay for her own fare. The oldest John Barney later returned to Brestol England where he was married and had one child named Anne. My grandmother’s other sisters all made their homes in London Ontario Canada where they were married and lived till their deaths.
